Can robots be a help at the workbench?

We have a current, modern robotic arm from the class of co-operation-capable Assistant robot tested: UR10 from Universal Robots. This robot was made available to us by the company MultiProfil GmbH from Verl/Kaunitz. We would like to thank them for their friendly and trusting cooperation.

Task

We have selected a simple machining task for testing. Flush milling and rounding a 2 mm ABS edge on a rectangular workpiece.

Result

Positive: The UR 10 robot can be operated without any other mechanical aids. groping! milling. For this purpose, the radial and axial contact with the workpiece takes place in the so-called FORCE command.

Negative: The Feed uniformity and the guidance of the milling cutter does not have the necessary precision. Pre-milling is possible, but finish milling is currently only possible with limited quality.

For Joineries and special construction departments with a high number of variants and low quantities will be available for special machining tasks for the foreseeable future. There is no economically viable alternative to man-operated tools.
