2nd problem

During welding, protruding weld seams are created that must be removed for subsequent machining or high-quality visible surfaces.
With angle grinders, the result can often be difficult to control and is dependent on the skill of the worker. This results in unevenness, material removal outside the weld seam, and additional rework.

3rd solution

The MZ 100 160V welding seam cutter was specifically developed for welding seam cutting in metal processing. The machine enables the targeted milling of welding seams on various metal structures and ensures uniform surfaces.
Thanks to precise guidance, only the material that is needed is removed. This improves the surface quality and reduces the post-processing time.

How it works

  • The robust industrial pressure air motor drives the cutter.
  • The machine is guided along the welding seam.
  • The guide stabilizes the machining process and improves the surface quality.
  • Excess welding material is removed under control.
  • A uniform and clean metal surface is created.

Technical highlights

  • Instead of grinding with a welding seam cutter for metal machining.
  • Suitable for aluminum
  • Even material removal
  • Reduced rework compared to manual grinding
  • High surface quality
  • Precise guidance along the welding seam
  • Compressed air drive for industrial continuous use
  • Ergonomic handling
  • Suitable for metal construction and industrial manufacturing

Use cases

  • Repairing welding seams on aluminum structures
  • Welding seam processing on edges and corners, horizontally and vertically
  • Metal construction, vehicle construction, container construction
  • Post-processing of welded assemblies
  • Pre-treatment of surfaces for coating or painting

Before

Excessive welding seams and uneven surfaces detract from the appearance and can complicate subsequent manufacturing steps. Manual processing with grinding tools is time-consuming and difficult to reproduce.

Later

The welded seam is cleanly finished and integrated harmoniously into the surface. The workpiece appears more high-quality and can be prepared directly for further processing steps.

Workflow for the welding seam cutter in metalworking

The welding seam cutter is securely pulled over the welding seam with two hands

Preparation machine

  • For preparation, the compressed air is set to 6 bar.
  • A carbide cutter is already mounted and pre-adjusted upon delivery.
  • Approximately 8 drops should be added directly to the compressed air plug from the oil bottle.
  • The starting lever is secured by a safety lever.

After milling, the wide aluminum weld seam is milled to a smooth edge and smoothed and flattened.

Preparation of workpiece

  • Thinner WIG seams and wider MIG welding seams can be repaired. The image shows a MIG seam.
  • Fix the workpiece, e.g. on a welding table or workbench
  • The weld seam can be lubricated with a cutting oil or the like, for example with Känguruh Alufix iron sheets.
  • The material is AlMg3 or equivalent; it has also been successfully processed into AlMg4,5 H321 (special hardness of the base material), with the addition of the welding additive AlMg4,5 Mn0,7.

Milling with the welding seam cutter for metal machining

  • It is always necessary to operate in two-handed mode.
  • The machine operator presses the end of the blade lightly onto the workpiece.
  • A damage to the workpiece is significantly prevented than with a angle grinder.
  • Grind the seam in the opposite direction evenly

Grinding of welding seams

  • Precise removal of excess seam allowances on exterior corners and corner seams
  • Safe driving thanks to new locking mechanism
  • Protection against damage to the workpiece
  • Replace lapping with precision milling.
  • Specially suited for machining aluminium.
